Elissa Strauss has been writing about the politics and culture of parenting and caregiving for more than fifteen years. Her work appears in publications like the Atlantic, the New York Times, Glamour, ELLE, TheWeek.com and elsewhere, and she was a former contributing writer at CNN.com and Slate, where her cultural criticism about motherhood appeared on DoubleX.

Josephine Kalipeni (Josie) is currently the Executive Director of Family Values at Work – a movement network of grassroots organizers and coalitions in more than two dozen states that is winning paid family leave and paid sick and safe days at the state level, with a commitment to winning equitable paid leave at the federal level. Josie believes the key to achieving Family Values at Work’s mission is undoing racist and toxic cultural norms and narratives of individualism, scarcity, and “the deserving,” while building representative power to win policy that changes lives.

Marjorie Sims is the managing director of Ascend at the Aspen Institute. In her role, Marjorie works closely with the executive director on the strategic direction of the program’s vision, leads content development related to Ascend’s areas of expertise, and oversees the development and implementation of all operations in support of achieving team goals.
