Democracy, Politics, and Civil Discourse – How did we get here and what is the path forward?

The 2024 elections represent a landmark in American history. Our country’s politics — and our society — are dividing us in a way that makes it almost impossible for voters or their elected representatives to put aside our differences to confront our most important challenges. How did we get here, and how can we get back to a better place?

Join Dan Schnur, political communications lecturer at UC-Berkeley, USC and Pepperdine, for a series of conversations about the roots of our current crisis and what it means both for the 2024 elections and our future beyond this November. We will discuss this year’s election and the contemporary political landscape, and we will also try to put these challenging times into historical context, examining both the nation’s political history and its future, as well as how our politics fits into the broader social and cultural landscape.
